Healing with Common Herbs (4)

With only simple 4 families of herbs
Medicinal Garden

-- mint, hibiscus, chrysanthemum and ginger 
in our garden (or in our kitchen)
we can prevent and treat a lot of common ailments 
at home!

Here are some 10 common discomforts 
that can be remediated/mitgated with garden herbs:

1. Constipation
>> Tea of Mint and Ginger
>> Tea of Roselle 

2. Bloating
>> Tea of Roselle and Basil
>> Tea of Shiso (leaves and stems) and Ginger

3. Sore thoat
>> Salad Ulam Raja
>> Soup of TongHao

4. High blood pressure
>> Soup of Mugwort
>> Tea of Mint and Roselle

5. Fever
>> Tea of White Hibiscus leaves
>> Tea of Chrysanthemum

6. Diarrhea
>> Tea of Chamomile

7. High Blood Glucose
>> Overnight decoction of Lady Fingers
>> Tea of Tulasi (Holy Basil)

8. Headache
>> Tea of Mugwort and Ginger 

9. Muscle Pain
>> Soy Milk with Turmeric (+Black Pepper)

10. Cough
>> Tea of Basil and Ginger


The dosage of the above remedies are flexible, as they are basically food.

For Teas, 
Brew in a thermal flask with 500mL boiling hot water, 
5g of fresh leaves/flowers or 30g of fresh fruits, 15g of roots,  
Take 4 times a week and rest for 3 days.
If the effect is not there, double the above ingredients.

For soups, simply add in a cup or two of the fresh leaves,
or as per personal preference.

For turmeric milk, 
simply blend 10g fresh turmeric 
and a few black pepper corn 
into salted soy milk (or any plant milk).


Note:

For healing, we generally prefer non-sweetened decocotion
as sugar brings up acidity 
while the actual goal is to bring down acidity in the body.

The decoctions often taste astrignent and bitter
rendering them difficult to palate down.
Try using salt and sour juices to neutralise instead.

Sipping the decoction while hot,
will also reduce the adverse feeling 
from the astringency/bitterness.

In really "difficult" situation
(eg complaints from small kids)
use only very minimal amount of healthier sweetener 
(eg fruit skins, dates, whole cane, molasses, oligosaccharides).
